Bonded Brotherhood Fall Men’s Retreat
Participant Agreement, Assumption of Risk, Release of Liability, and Media Release

READ CAREFULLY. THIS AGREEMENT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
1. Participation and eligibility
This retreat is exclusively for men age 18 and older. By registering, I confirm that I meet these eligibility requirements and voluntarily choose to participate in the Bonded Brotherhood Fall Men’s Retreat.
This agreement applies to my participation in the retreat, use of retreat premises and equipment, and retreat-related transportation, including carpool travel between the Logan meeting location and retreat activities.
All activities are voluntary. I may decline or stop any activity, exercise, or discussion. I am not required to cold plunge, handle firearms, participate in breathwork, or share personal experiences. I will communicate my limits and follow instructions for safely leaving an activity.
2. Acknowledgment of risks
I understand that this retreat involves outdoor recreation, overnight camping, physical activities, and personal growth discussions. Risks include, but are not limited to:

Camping and mountain conditions: Uneven or slippery terrain, falls, falling branches, wildlife, insects, darkness, altitude, rapidly changing weather, cold exposure, hypothermia, dehydration, and becoming lost.

Hiking: Physical exertion, fatigue, sprains, fractures, falls, and difficulty accessing assistance.

Cold-water immersion: Cold shock, loss of breathing control, cardiovascular distress, loss of coordination or consciousness, hypothermia, and drowning.

Shotgun shooting and proximity to firearms: Accidental discharge, unsafe handling by others, projectiles or ricochets, equipment failure, recoil, hearing or eye injury, and fatal injury. These risks may affect participants and bystanders.

Campfires and cooking: Burns, smoke exposure, fire, hot equipment, cuts, foodborne illness, and allergic reactions.

Mindfulness, breathwork, and group discussions: Dizziness, fainting, physical discomfort, anxiety, emotional distress, and the resurfacing of difficult memories.

Transportation: Vehicle collisions, road and weather hazards, driver error, and travel on mountain or unpaved roads.

Equipment: Improper fit, misuse, defects, or failure of personal or borrowed camping and activity equipment.
I understand that these risks can cause serious injury, permanent disability, illness, death, or property loss. Not every possible risk can be listed or anticipated.
3. Remote location, emergency response, and financial responsibility
I understand that the retreat is in a remote mountain setting without cell phone service. Communication, rescue, evacuation, and medical treatment may be delayed or unavailable for extended periods. Immediate professional medical care is not guaranteed.
I accept responsibility for my decisions, conduct, and choice to participate in this remote setting.
If I am injured, become ill, or experience an emergency and cannot make or communicate decisions for myself, I authorize Bonded Brotherhood leaders to use their reasonable judgment in good faith to seek assistance, arrange transportation or evacuation, and obtain emergency evaluation or care on my behalf.
I release Bonded Brotherhood and its leaders from claims arising from ordinary negligence in making those good-faith emergency decisions or taking those actions.
I accept financial responsibility for charges associated with my rescue, evacuation, transportation, medical evaluation, and treatment. Bonded Brotherhood does not undertake to pay these charges or provide medical, accident, or evacuation insurance for me.
4. Personal readiness and safety responsibilities
I will consider my health, fitness, swimming ability, and physical and emotional limits before participating. If I am uncertain whether an activity is appropriate for me, I will seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before participating.
I will privately inform the designated retreat organizer of relevant allergies, limitations, or emergency needs that could affect my safe participation. I remain responsible for bringing and managing my prescribed medications and necessary personal medical supplies.
I agree to:

Follow safety instructions, activity boundaries, and equipment requirements.

Use required protective equipment, including eye and hearing protection during shooting.

Handle firearms only with the designated supervisor’s permission and instruction.

Enter the water only during an organizer-authorized activity and follow supervision requirements.

Not perform hyperventilation or breath-holding exercises in or near the water.

Stop and notify a leader if I feel unwell, unsafe, or unable to continue.

Notify a leader before leaving the group or retreat area.

Report damaged equipment and not use equipment I believe is unsafe.

Wear a seat belt during vehicle travel.

Refrain from alcohol, illegal drugs, and participating while impaired.
I understand organizers may stop an activity or restrict my participation for safety reasons.
5. Personal growth sessions and privacy
I understand that Bonded Brotherhood is not a therapy provider and that its retreat facilitators are not trained or licensed therapists.
Retreat sessions are for education, connection, and personal growth. They are not medical care, psychotherapy, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis services and are not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Participation does not create a healthcare provider–patient or therapist–client relationship.
I agree to respect other participants’ privacy and not record or share their personal stories or identifying details without permission. I understand that confidentiality among participants cannot be guaranteed and that safety concerns may require contacting emergency services or making disclosures required by law.
6. Assumption of risk
Knowing the nature of the retreat and the risks described above, I voluntarily assume the inherent risks of my participation, including risks not specifically listed.
7. Release of liability
In consideration of being permitted to participate, I release Bonded Brotherhood, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, retreat leaders, instructors, and participating property owners and operators, each only in connection with their role in this retreat (collectively, the “Released Parties”), from claims I may have for personal injury, illness, death, or property damage arising from the inherent risks of this retreat or the ordinary negligence of the Released Parties.
THIS RELEASE EXPRESSLY INCLUDES CLAIMS CAUSED BY THE ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASED PARTIES, including negligent acts or omissions involving instruction, supervision, equipment, premises, emergency response, or retreat-related transportation.
I understand that I am accepting responsibility for the risks described in this agreement and giving up the right to seek compensation from the Released Parties for claims covered by this release.
This release concerns my own rights and claims. It does not purport to waive another person’s independent rights.
8. Media release
As part of this agreement and as a condition of participation, I authorize Bonded Brotherhood to photograph, film, or record me during the retreat and to use my image, likeness, and voice in its website, social media, newsletters, fundraising communications, and other materials promoting its mission and activities.
I grant Bonded Brotherhood nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to reproduce, edit, publish, display, and distribute these materials without compensation to me. I understand that I will not review or approve each use in advance.
Materials may be edited for length or presentation but may not be used in a misleading or demeaning way.
This permission does not authorize recording or publishing confidential group discussions, sensitive personal disclosures, or testimonials about my personal experiences without my additional permission.
I understand that published materials may be viewed, copied, or shared by others and that Bonded Brotherhood cannot control third-party distribution.
I release Bonded Brotherhood from claims based on its authorized use of my image, likeness, or voice within the scope of this section.
9. Acknowledgment and agreement
By completing registration and checking the required agreement box, I confirm that I am a man age 18 or older, have read and understand this entire agreement, and voluntarily accept all its terms.
I understand that my acceptance includes the assumption of risk, emergency authorization, financial responsibility for emergency-related charges, release of certain legal claims, and media permission.
I understand that this agreement releases claims for ordinary negligence as described above. I intend my checkbox acceptance and submission of registration to constitute my electronic agreement.
Acceptance of this entire agreement, including the media release, is required to participate in the retreat.
